What ever business or job we do, it is necessary to be transparent for us. This is the reason companies submit their quarterly returns. But there is a field which is very less transparent and we people are still ignoring the necessity of transparency in this field.
Yes - I am talking about medical sector.
Consider one person is admitted in hospital. Doctors mostly admit them in ICU. Probably this is the reason that most of the hospitals have ICU in their first or ground floor. They use it as a entry way for their patients.
Recently it happened with me. I was to admit one of my friend to hospital for a minor insect bite on his leg. He was taken to ICU. We people were shocked. What a insect bite has to do with ICU?!?!!?
They referred that they could save patient only of he is admitted in ICU, because pulse may drop anytime or BP may raise. We were literally forced to admit patient there.
Once admitted, we asked doctor about the status of the patient. He asked us to wait till visiting hours. I was really surprised, why one should wait till visiting hours to know about the patients status ?!!?!
The ICU appeared very strange to me. First of all, everything was happening in a closed space. None of us could see what's going on inside. Even Government offices have transparent glass doors nowadays, why not hospitals ?!?!?!
What's wrong in giving us an option to see what is happening to the patient ?!?!
Probably it might put an end to their earning methodology. I don't want to name the hospital, because it is not the only hospital doing like this.
We people are very tolerant in this issue. We actually never fight for a transparent ICU. Government decided to increase transparency in Government offices. If an official accepts bribe, person from outside could see it. This has actually put some fear on officials mind and hence bribe transportation has come down literally.
But we people never imagined a transparent ICU. In developed nations, husband is allowed to see the how his wife delivers a baby. But here we people are cheated. Many natural cases are converted into cesarean cases. Many mothers life are put into risk. Till date we people have not asked for a transparent maternity ward. What's wrong in allowing husband watch his child's birth ?!?!?
Doctors also will realize that someone is watching me. This will make them more responsible in their job. But unless we people talk about these issues, this are never going to happen - it is assured.
Come on youngsters. Think in this direction. Ultimately everyone of us have to visit hospital (willingly or unwillingly) at least once in our lifetime. Innovations are most welcome.
Ultimately, we need to get back medical field as a service sector from business sector.
